I love to work. I have spent most of my adult life working and trying to find out what I want to be when I grow up. Raised by Brooklynites in Maspeth, Queens, I used to make Cavatelli out of Play-Doh for my grandparents, who paid a premium, ten bucks for a plate.
At thirteen I got a job vacuuming the porn section at a local video store.
High school and college breaks meant earning spending money. I ran the fitting room at Old Navy for a summer, spent a few years working in the college library, was a temp at the Jacob Javitz Center, worked in several offices, design studios, I could go on.
I even tried working at an Orthodox Jewish catering hall.
I was and always will be busy trying to find my calling while making a paycheck. There wasn't a whole lot of money growing up, but it was managed well. As soon as I could count my mom had me reconciling her checkbook. I consider this early training for my time as a bookkeeper.
I should mention that I play the flute, participated in a wealth of school bands, taught myself really bad piano, and eventually graduated with a degree in Fine Art from SUNY Purchase.
I make a great chocolate chip cookie.
So you get the picture. I’m a hardworking dreamer with a colorful and random history.
I'm definitely the most talked to person on the public transit system. I’ve met hundreds of amazing people. I’m touched by the beauty and honesty of strangers.
With a world of far away places, languages, cultures, foods, and friends I have yet to make, I’m going to try to keep my random approach to life.
I live in Queens, work in SoHo, but most importantly I spend my evenings with my loving husband, Declan and a glass of red wine. They both make everything a little better, and some chocolate helps too.
I don’t drive, and you can give me hell about it, or you can consider me the most earth friendly New Yorker you have ever met.
Whatever you think of me, I have an undying love for a deal, for new things, fun places, and non-stop shopping.
I figured I’d share a little of that undying love with you.
