Review of the Roger Federer Tennis Racquet

I’ve played with the same old Prostaff racquet for nearly 8 years so it was past time to pick up a new one.  I’d looked around and demoed a lot of different racquets including a couple from Head, Volkl, and even some other Wilsons.  The best fit for me ended up being the Wilson Six.One Tour that is used by Roger Federer.  I’ve found that this racquet really offers a lot of control and feel when hitting through the ball.  You definitely need to have the strength to put force into the ball though, the racquet really is on the heavier side.  It’s quite different from many of the other modern models available today because it has a smaller head.  Timing the ball well and consistently making contact on the smaller sweet spot isn’t always easy.  Thats why I wouldn’t recommend this racquet to anyone but the experienced player.  This is a tool for those that already have all the necessary hand-eye coordination and fundamental strokes down.  Don’t expect much forgiveness when you take an off center hit with this frame.  To sum up the different elements that make this racquet unique:

  • Smaller head size – Can get through the ball quickly and really control it, but you won’t find the sweet spot in the middle as easily.  This can be really frustrating if your timing tends to go off because you’ll start hitting off-center shots and lose all your power.
  • Stiff frame – Control again and good feel.  The racquet frame doesn’t vibrate much when making contact, though I’m not sure how much of this is the stiff frame or the BLX technology kicking in.  BLX is the addition of basalt fibers for dampening the shock and strengthening the frame.
  • Weight – This racquet is on the heavier side, which can be a good thing for those strong enough to use it.  Smaller players might be better off sticking to a lighter offering

Wilson ’10 Six.One 26 BLX Junior Tennis Racquet

Tomorrow’s champion can now fully develop their skill with this perfectly balanced racquet along with the new enhance BLX feel. Head Size: 100sq., Length: 26, Weight (strung): 8.9oz/252g, Balance (strung): 6pts. HH, String Pattern: 16×19, Cross Section: 26mm Dual Taper Beam. Strung.

Overall this is a great racquet for more experienced players looking for a solid racquet focused on control and feel.  Players with strength to spare will be able to generate plenty of power coming through the ball.  Beginning or intermediate players should look for a different racquet that is more suited to their level of play.  The Roger Federer racquet is a great addition to Wilson’s long line of quality tennis equipment.
